Our First RI Snow

Despite the weather reports for the last few weeks- we have not had a drop (or should I say flake) of snow in Rhode Island this winter UNTIL today! Today we had our first snow, it was a light snow, but it was snow just the same. The boys had a huge snowball fight and built the beginnings of a snow fort- though they will need a lot more snow to complete it. Anyway, it was a joyous day for the boys! And I just had a share a few pictures.

This is a picture of Ross just moments after the first flakes started falling. He was not outside thirty second before he had formed this snowball and posed for this picture!

This is a picture of Spencer mid-snowball fight. He really wanted me to get the snowball in the picture but my fingers were too cold and I could not take the picture fast enough. Suffice it say he threw a really fantastic snowball just moments before I took this and it undoubtedly hit something equally fantastic in his mind!

This is my favorite picture of all.
Of course, I love Ross' giant snowball but more than that I love his rosy cheeks and genuine smile.
As you probably know, I am not a huge fan of the snow but I wonder, when I look at this picture, how could I not be happy it is snowing when it brings such delight to someone I love?

Me and My Glasses

We have been visiting a local nursing home once a week to meet with the residents and to help the boys get a feel for serving others without the expectation of getting anything in return. Anyway, there are a handful a residents that I have really bonded to. One is a women named Marge. She is older (obviously) and suffers from some dementia but she such a funny, sweet lady- I have really come to enjoy being around her. Anyway, a few days ago I decided to help her during one of the activities so I walk up to her and put my hand on her shoulder and said, "Hi Marge, how are you today?" She got a really funny, surprised look on her face and said, "Oh... you have the most beautiful eyes and... my oh my, look at those teeth." I couldn't help chuckle to myself. I thanked her and started to sit down but she grabbed my hand and said, "But those glasses they are just... there are no words! Those glasses are beautiful!"

I laughed out loud. Really? My glasses? And all this time I thought I had picked the wrong ones. I am so glad to have people like Marge and Ross in my life to set me straight when I get off track!

Like Mother, Like Son

Ross was being SUPER dramatic about something right before we sat down to eat dinner last night and I told him he belonged on Broadway (that is what my mom used to say to me when I was his age) and then I said, "And, if you are lucky Ross, someday you will turn out just like me!" He said, "Mom, there is just one problem. I am male and you are female so I don't think that would work." Before I could respond he said, "However, if I got a Harvard sweatshirt, black pants (that is what I was wearing at the time), a blond wig and lipstick... and if I brushed my teeth- I guess I could be just like you!"

We all laughed so hard we cried!
Honestly, I don't know where this kid came from!
He is SO funny- I love it!

Heartfelt Prayers

Ross has recently become very specific and sincere in his prayers and as a parent it has been very sweet to see. It is however, funny sometimes too. With no intent of being disrespectful, I wanted to share a portion of a prayer he offered the other day. It is important to note that we had just completed a unit in science on Simple Machines.

"We thank Thee for simple machines. Specifically, third class levers which can be found in various places throughout our bodies!"

He was so sincere- it was hard not to smile!
