Hatred

I have recently had an opportunity to be hated by people who I trusted and hope to be able to call friends. So when I read these quotes by Maya Angelou I was more than intrigued.

She says, A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall. They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever good enough!

I have felt that before. I have felt it from others recently BUT (and here is the trouble) I have also felt it in my own heart the last few weeks as a result of others actions.

Maya asks, how do you handle your undercover haters?

Then she offers three wise suggestions. She says you can handle these haters by:

1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are.

2. Having a purpose to your life: Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfulfilled. A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be. Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.

3. By remembering that what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation. When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at me...Look at who is in charge of me...'

She also said, When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters... That's why you have to be careful with whom you share your blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing you blessed...

From personal experience I know that hate is a kind of poison that hurts those that hold it in their heart. I know that returning hate for hate leads to discouragement and despair. I know that God alone can give us the strength to overcome the feelings of hate we may feel for others. And that it is only with His help we can stand strong in the face of those that hate us. I know that kindness to those that hate us is not always the antidote to solving difficult situations (sometimes it just fuels the fire) but I know that it is always the right answer. I know that peace can be felt in knowing who we are and striving to fulfill our purpose in life no matter what others say or do or feel for us.

For the last few weeks I have been feeling really sorry for myself- for being hated for doing what I believe was the right thing. I have been angry and bitter and ironically full of hate for my haters. I am grateful for the words of Maya Angelou and my knowledge of the gospel- both have helped to restore peace and perspective in my life.

been there done that. it's no fun and very tireing...my only advise is to surround yourself with women who like you for who you are (even your faults!) and they will help you to like yourself and to be the person you are in God's eyes. i'm sorry you have had to go through that. it is not fun and sometimes takes days, months, and even sometimes years to help those hurtful feelings to finally go away. hang in there, and maya angelou has some awesome words i wish i read a while ago!

Laura - I am so sad to hear that you are going through something like this. I am truly shocked to hear that you are feeling this hatred coming from someone else. I just have to say that this person has not taken the time to get to know you because if they had they would know that there is nothing about you to hate. You are a truly wonderful person. You are a magnificient friend who is very giving and loving to others.
I am happy to see that you are looking at this in a good light instead of letting it fester and eat away at you.
You know you are a good person. God knows you are a good person.
I love you, Laura. Most importantly, God loves you!!!!

Honey, you are an amazing person. I know this has to do with the problems surrounding the production and sometimes we can find this when stepping outside of our comfort zone of the wonderful people we call family and friends. The world can be a cruel and heartless place but that same world is better for having had its experience with you, your goodness and your level headed way to approach life. Some people just cannot handle that, or your successes and triumphs.

Don't you just love Maya Angelou? She has such sage advise and it follows the gospel completely.

Feel good about your decisions and the things you brought to the table for the kids you have worked for and with these past months. And The H E Two sticks with the rest of them! The service you have rendered was rendered with love and complete diligence and that is more than enough!

Can you please call me as I need to get your new bank number to send the birthday bucks over to Utah for Spencer's BD and it is impossible to get you on the phone anymore.

Got your check...we should have just traded instead of sending it all back and forth. Dah!

I can only echo Clarissa. Truly, you are one of the best people I have ever met. I cannot even imagine someone feeling hatred for you, but as Clarissa said, this person hasn't taken the time to get to know you. Maya Angelo has some really great words of wisdom here. I'm so glad you have found them and can gain some perspective from them. You really are such a great and giving friend! I love you too, and hope you feel that from thousands of miles away!! :-)

Laura, this really surprises me. I do not think or even understand how someone could feel that way towards you. I think you are great. I love running into you at the NEX and I am always excited to hear from you through e-mails, reading your blog or any other way.
